Enlightenment for Modern Life

At the Institute of Applied Meditative Studies (IAMS), we are dedicated to advancing the understanding and practice of meditation as a transformative tool for personal and societal well-being. Our approach is rooted in ancient wisdom, adapted to meet the demands of modern life, making the path to enlightenment accessible and practical for all.

One Path to Enlightenment

We don’t see enlightenment as a dogmatic concept but as a gradual journey. Grounded in the timeless teachings of the Buddha and enriched by the profound Burmese Theravāda tradition, our path includes contemplative practice, moral living, and skillful giving. Our mission is to make these ancient practices relevant and measurable in today’s world, guiding you step by step towards enlightenment.

One-pointed Practice

Achieving enlightenment demands utmost focus and dedication. In the chaos and distractions of modern life, this pursuit can seem almost impossible. At IAMS, we encourage serious and earnest determination while also offering flexible, achievable methodologies. Our tailored approaches ensure that everyone, regardless of their level, can develop a one-pointed practice that fosters personal transformation and societal harmony.

Rely on Oneself

Enlightenment is a deeply personal journey requiring self-reliance and inner strength. At IAMS, our experts empower you to take charge of your path through extensive study and integration of Buddhist teachings. By embracing moral living, contemplative practice, and skillful giving, you can unlock your potential and achieve true well-being.

The Oneness Sangha

Join our compassionate community of enlightened practitioners at IAMS. The Oneness Sangha embodies the spirit of Dhamma in action, fostering personal, social, and economic success. Our community members support each other on the meditative path, demonstrating the tangible benefits of practice in contemporary society. Together, we strive to create a harmonious and enlightened world.

Message from our Founder

Dear Friends,

In today’s fast-paced world, we are overwhelmed by stress and the demands of daily life. Balancing work, family, and well-being can seem impossible. I understand these challenges, and that’s why I founded the Institute of Applied Meditative Studies (IAMS).

At Santisukhavihāra, where I am vice Abbot, we honour Theravāda Buddhist traditions with deep, disciplined practice. IAMS bridges the gap between these ancient teachings and modern needs, making meditation practical and accessible for everyone.

Our approach begins with ethical living, forming a stable foundation for practice. We guide you through personalised meditation techniques to achieve deep concentration and insight, unlocking profound states of jhāna for resilience.

Once established, we guide you into vipassanā meditation, exploring the realities of mentality (nāma) and materiality (rūpa). We incorporate modern methods from psychotherapy, neuroscience, and public health, providing relief from modern life stresses and eventually attaining enlightening wisdom.

IAMS supports your transformative journey, helping you achieve balance, clarity, and a deeper connection to the world.

Warm regards,

Venerable Tikkhañāṇa (Bhante Khoa)
